The GeoTrek Darkness series was first created to appeal to spacers and colonists. The handguns bear grim names, meant to amplify their 'cool' image and make marketing easier. However, the names also caused the series to become popular with smugglers and other armed, illegal groups.
Blueprints for the Darkness series sometimes pop up on the market, allowing local manufacturers to create their own copies of the handguns.
